Scilly activities (see pictures) The Isles of Scilly are a perfect holiday destination, with clear waters, white beaches, exotic plants, abundant wildlife and historical sites. Surrounded by clear sheltered waters, the islands are an ideal place for all watersports. Whether experienced or novice, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of activities, from windsurfing and sailing to snorkelling and scuba diving. The mild climate make the Scillies a treat to visit in the spring, when the fields are full of daffodils and narcissi. The local flora mixes with some unusual exotic plants, such as agapanthas, creating an abundance of colour. For a more formal look at the fauna of the islands, visit the subtropical gardens at Tresco Abbey. In the autumn there is the opportunity to spot rare and wonderful birds as they make way to the warmer climes of southern Europe or have been blown across from America. The Scillies are also home to a huge range of sea bird, with some uninhabited islands maintained as bird sanctuaries during the summer months. Grey seals are also found in abundance around the islands and there are frequent boat trips to the main colonies on the Eastern Isles, the Western Rocks and Norrad Rocks. In addition, dolphins and porpoises can also be seen around the islands. Many ancient monuments are to be found on the islands, from a megalithic village and tombs to Civil War fortifications.
